SINAPSE/Carestream-funded 3 year PhD Studentship
entitled “The Use of Molecular Imaging to Study the Mechanisms Underlying Cancer and Drug
Discovery”
The molecular imaging techniques of SPECT and PET hold enormous potential
for studying the mechanisms underlying cancer and in drug discovery. An
exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated individual to join a
multidisciplinary team including oncologists, biological scientists,
clinical physicists and chemists to aid cancer research. The SINAPSE
(Scottish Imaging Network: A Platform for Scientific Excellence) team at
the University of Glasgow has joined with the Beatson Institute for Cancer
Research (BICR) in acquiring a state-of-the-art Carestream Albira trimodal
micro-SPECT-PET-CT scanner. This project will utilise the Albira to
analyse newly designed and existing molecular markers in advanced genetic
mouse models of cancer.
The project will involve training in in-vivo imaging techniques and image
analysis. The student will be primarily based at the BICR at the
University of Glasgow where there is a wealth of expertise in cancer
research, and will join a rapidly expanding group of molecular imaging
scientists across Scotland who are utilising the exciting technique of
small animal molecular imaging to advance research programs. The student
will also work closely with Carestream as an industry leading company on
molecular imaging
The successful applicant will have a first or upper second class honours
degree in biological sciences, physics or related discipline (or EU
equivalent).
